Sony has inked a home-entertainment deal with STX International to distribute its titles in the U.K. and Ireland, starting with Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olson thriller “Wind River.” The agreement covers DVD and all digital formats and kicks off in 2018.
The deal is STX International’s first in home entertainment. Titles that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will handle in the U.K. include romantic comedy “Home Again,” with Reese Witherspoon, and Andy Serkis’ feature directorial debut, “Breathe,” starring Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, which has just opened the BFI London Film Festival.
“As the home-entertainment business continues to evolve, this new partnership allows us to leverage our collective strengths and assets to grow our distribution business across platforms,” said David Kosse, president of STX International. “Sony Pictures is a leader in global home entertainment, and we look forward to joining forces to bring STX International’s exciting slate of star-driven projects to consumers in the U.K. and Ireland.”
Kosse joined STX last year from Film4 to run the company’s new international division based in London, which is its center of operations for international marketing, production, and distribution.
STX rolled out its first slate to be distributed in the U.K. last year, with a five-strong line-up. In addition to “Home Again,” and “Breathe,” that slate included Baltasar Kormakur-directed “Adrift.”
Man Jit Singh, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, said: “This deal enables us to build on our formidable reputation as a leading distributor and signifies our profound understanding of the home-entertainment marketplace. We look forward to exploiting our resource and expertise to bring this exceptional slate to audiences across the U.K. and Ireland.”
