Online entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow has signed a deal with South India’s largest multiplex chain SPI Cinemas to enable movie ticket bookings on its platform.
Following this partnership, BookMyShow now has all major cinema chains on its platform, founder and CEO Ashish Hemrajani said in a statement.
As per the deal, BookMyShow users will now have access to a complete seat inventory of almost 13,000 seats across 47 screens in 10 cinema properties of SPI Cinemas in India.
SPI Cinemas currently operates under various brand names including Sathyam, Escape, Palazzo, Le Reve, The Cinema and S2 among others in Chennai, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Warangal.
All new and upcoming SPI Cinemas will also be part of the deal, the company said. The deal period or terms of the partnership were however not disclosed.
South India is a crucial region for BookMyShow with nearly 40% of its 4,500 screens i.e. around 1,750 screen located in the geography.

Earlier this year, BookMyShow had also acquired Hyderabad-based online ticketing platform MastiTickets to target regional markets, specifically Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“We have seen a 30% growth from these markets. Kannada, Telugu, Tamil speaking audiences are some of the most important markets for us. This acquisition will enable us to acquire users in these markets, as well as exclusive access to around 120 cinemas,” Hemrajani had told ET at the time of acquisition.
BookMyShow had also acquired Chennai-based online ticketing player TicketGreen in 2013, to gain access to over 100 regional cinemas in South India.
