Disney Bows Social-Like App to Feed
Kids Bite-Size, Nontoxic Content

The US-based on-demand streaming website Netflix arrived in the country five months ago and after facing initial hiccups, is geared up to overturn the viewing habits of Indians by acquiring recent Bollywood titles, memorable classic titles and the best of regional cinema (Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi and Marathi), a top Netflix executive has said.

Disney has created a secure sandbox for preteens to get a taste of social media - without the risk that they'll run into something age-inappropriate, scary or offensive. More important, for Disney, the new Disney LOL app eliminates the danger that a tyke will see something other than a Disney-branded piece of content (apart from select third-party ads). Basically, Disney LOL is a stunted version of Instagram or Pinterest, stripping out user-upload, commenting and "like" features. The apps and related website are stocked with micro-content like GIFs, memes, short videos, games, jokes and trivia pulled from the media conglom's properties including Walt Disney Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, Disney Channel and Disney XD. The owned-and-operated Disney LOL app, created and maintained by the Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media unit, also promises to let the company better monetize snack-size social content versus other platforms like Facebook or Snapchat.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), the telecom arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), is ready with the content for its digital media apps. The company has plans to launch four apps, namely an entertainment app called Jio Play, a music streaming app called Jio Beats, a magazine app called Jio Mags and a news app called Jio News.

Little has changed about the concept of going to the movies in the past two decades. You buy your ticket, maybe some popcorn and a way-too-large soda, and you enjoy the experience for two hours or so. At-home movie watching, however, has evolved rapidly.

Why Hollywood Chooses Cincinnati & NKY     Film And TV Tax Credit 2.0 is A
Blockbuster for California

Big time Hollywood stars like Bruce Willis, Christopher Meloni, Cate Blanchett, and Don Cheadle have been spotted on the streets of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky as these movie productions make their way from the Queen City to the box office. Cincinnati's look is what lands the city these high-profile roles. "Director John Sayles said Cincinnati looked a lot like New York City - not just New York, but a period New York, and Cincinnati could play New York better than modern New York," said Kristen Erwin Schlotman, executive director of the Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission, the guest speaker at Thursday's Covington Business Council luncheon at the Madison Event Center in Covington.

Lights! Camera! Jobs! Now, I know we usually say "Action" after lights and camera. But who stands behind the camera, operates the boom mike, and powers the whole production? Workers with great middle class jobs, 170,000 of whom live right here in California. When we think of film production, we picture the biggest names with the biggest paychecks like the actors and directors whose names come first in the credits.

    India-China Film Co-Productions
Unveiled By Eros' Trinity Pictures

Unimpressed pedestrians who recently walked through an East Market Street set where an episode of the FX comedy series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was being filmed weren't just being rude. They unwittingly served as a metaphor for their state, which has been trampling over a tax program designed to lure filmmakers to Pennsylvania. For the first time in a decade, no major feature films are scheduled to be shot in or around the nation's fifth-largest city this year.

Leading Indian film major Eros International's Trinity Pictures banner has announced two projects that are the first India-China co-productions after the two Asian giants signed a treaty in 2014. Trinity will partner with China's Peacock Mountain Culture & Media Ltd and Huaxia Film Distribution Co. Ltd on the projects to be helmed by Bollywood directors.
